Thursday, November 12, 2026, 3-4pm CT
Reading materials will be circulated with registered participants a week in advance.

This work in progress forms the basis for one chapter of a book tentatively titled An-archē-ism in Latin America. This chapter begins with a brief consideration of some texts by arguably the most famous anarchist in Mexican national history (Ricardo Flores Magón), arguing that traditional anarchist writing embodies the paradox signaled in the introductory chapter of An-archē-ism in Latin America – namely, that political anarchism merely replaces one archē with another. However, fundamentally different from this style of writing is the an-archē-ic writing under consideration in the rest of this chapter, specifically the text Un habitar más fuerte que la metrópoli by the anonymous Mexican collective Consejo nocturno. This text has received virtually no attention in English-language academic writing despite its strong resonances with other radical texts that are more widely commented upon: the numerous books by The Invisible Committee and Tiqqun. My analysis emphasizes the an-archē-ic nature of Consejo nocturno’s insistence on dwelling as opposed to more traditional aspects of anarchist political practice like direct action.
